New Honorary members of SCWIST!
Congratulations to Hiromi Matsui and Anne Condon who were confirmed at the 2007 SCWIST AGM as honorary members!
Anne Condon
Prof. Anne Condon is NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for B.C. and the Yukon. Throughout her academic career, Anne has worked to support women in science and technology. She has been a long-time member of the Computing Research Association’s Committee on Women in Computer Science and Engineering (CRA-W) which implements research mentoring, community building, and information sharing projects for women in computer science and related fields across North America.
In BC and the Yukon, as part of her mandate as NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering, Anne established the Jade Project. By leveraging the NSERC monies, she was able to secure matching funds from General Motors in order to create and support four outstanding projects: Jade Treasures, Connecting with Computer Science, Canadian Distributed Mentor Project, and The Jade Bridges Programme. SCWIST has benefited from Jade Project funding to develop and host workshops aimed at women graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in science and engineering.
This nomination for honorary membership will serve to recognise the outstanding contributions that Prof. Anne Condon has made, and continues to make, to support girls and women in science and technology.
Hiromi Matsui
Hiromi Matsui is the Director of Diversity and Recruitment, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Simon Fraser University.
