UBC scientists discover sea-sponge drug
A new drug from a sea sponge that turns on a cell’s brakes may help in treatments of inflammatory diseases and leukemia, researchers say.
“This is an entirely new paradigm for controlling runaway cells,” Dr. Allice Mui, assistant professor in the surgery department at UBC, said in a news release.
Dr. Mui made the discovery with Dr. Christopher Ong, who works with Mui at UBC. Their research is highlighted in the Sept. 15th edition of Blood, the journal of the American Society of Hematology.
